Focus on the Climate Training Delivered for Surfrider Foundation Europe’s Employees

A Time for Learning and Collective Commitment

The European headquarters of Surfrider Foundation Europe, based in Biarritz, recently called on Act! with Surfrider to train its employees on climate issues. For this NGO committed to protecting the Ocean, it made sense to equip its teams to integrate climate issues into their daily work.

The training took place over one day, with around ten participants. The objective was clear: to help employees understand the mechanisms of climate change, its impacts on ecosystems, and their possible levers for action, both individually and collectively.

A Structured and Participatory Program

The day began with an introduction and icebreaker activity to create a positive group dynamic. Participants then explored the concept of planetary boundaries, a scientific framework for understanding the critical thresholds of our planet.

The highlight of the morning was the Climate Fresk, a collaborative workshop designed to illustrate the causes and consequences of climate disruption. Guided by facilitators Laura and Solène, the participants mapped out the links between human activities, greenhouse gas emissions, and environmental imbalances.

The afternoon was dedicated to identifying solutions and building action plans. Through the interactive Carbochoc quiz, participants compared the carbon impact of everyday actions. Then, during the Solutions Game, they identified concrete actions to reduce their carbon footprint.

The day concluded with an evaluation and feedback session, where participants produced personalized action plans: one at the individual level and one for the organization, embedding the learning outcomes in a concrete action dynamic.

A First Step Toward a Shared Climate Strategy

This training enabled Surfrider Foundation Europe's employees to become aware of the CSR challenges related to climate change, strengthen their knowledge, and reflect together on solutions tailored to their activity.

It illustrates the importance of training employees on environmental issues to build a shared vision and foster a continuous improvement approach, both for individuals and the organization.

Conclusion

Training your teams on major environmental challenges, particularly climate change, is now a key lever for any company seeking to develop a credible and sustainable CSR strategy. The experience of Surfrider Foundation Europe demonstrates that these trainings are more than just educational sessions: they are real triggers for action.
